Popularity of IT Outsourcing
Information technology or IT is the acquisition, processing and the storage and dissemination of pictorial, vocal, numerical and textual information. The term in its modern sense first appeared in the year 1958 article by authors Leavitt and Whisler in the Harvard Business Review. Some modern fields of information technology are next generation bioinformatics, web technologies; cloud computing, global information systems, large scale knowledgebases and many more. Advancements are particularly driven in the computer science field.
IT outsourcing is very popular nowadays. In the US, a lot of corporations are planning to outsource thousands of IT jobs to outside companies. Most of these belong to offshore organizations in Southeast Asia or India. A decade ago, workers were drawn to the IT field because it provides good pay and opportunities and is a challenging and rewarding work.
The nature of the work dramatically changes with offshoring or outsourcing. It may appear equally rewarding or could prove to be undesirable depending on a person’s goals and interests. IT outsourcing will increase in countries that receive outsourcing contracts such as India and some Asian countries and could decrease in the United States. Moreover, the number of jobs could increase in some countries while it could decrease in the US.
